Children of the Nations Vice President of Advancement - Position Description

 

The Vice President of Advancement will lead the full scope of efforts to secure new and uplifted giving for Children of the Nations, maintaining the current donor base and keeping them engaged, identifying new markets, with a strong focus on acquisition of new partners for growth.

 

The VP of Advancement will report to the Sr. VP/COO and determine strategies within the Advancement Department to mobilize staff to achieve annual goals and objectives. The position is responsible to provide leadership expertise, best practices, and direction to the current and future development of COTN USA – Marketing, Church Development, and Philanthropy. The VP of Advancement will identify strategies, staff, and partners that serve the development and fundraising initiatives to support COTN’s work in the world.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field (graduate-level studies in organizational leadership preferred).

  • Detail-oriented, with a commitment to accuracy and thoroughness.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and leadership qualities.

  • A self-starter with a strong sense of initiative and the persistence to identify solutions to challenging tasks.

  • Demonstrated ability to set clear priorities and manage conflicting pressures by handling matters expeditiously, proactively, and seeing projects through to their successful completion.

  • Relevant experience working in strategy development in a 501(c)(3) organization.  

  • At least 10 years of experience in a strategy development and implementation role.  

  • At least 10 years of experience in fundraising and advancement, with experience in Christian nonprofit settings where budgets exceed $10 million annually.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate honesty and discretion.

  • Expected to travel internationally including assisting in leading Vision Trips abroad for the purpose of service, exposure, and solicitation of resources to support ministry activities.

This position is full time. Children of the Nations is headquartered in Silverdale, WA and there is opportunity for on-site work as well as remote work.

Anticipated Search Calendar 

The Interview Committee anticipates interviewing the top four Vice President of Finance candidates in September 2022.  

COTN’s Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer is charged with vetting candidates for this position with assistance from Jeff Davis of J. Davis & Associates. JDA will explore a broad network to suggest potential candidates. This thorough search will include consideration of many names and subsequent review of resumes. When appropriate, candidates will be asked to provide a thorough vocational history, respond to a questionnaire, and to have a video interview with Jeff Davis. Those holding the most promise will then be interviewed in person by the Interview Committee. Next, references and backgrounds will be checked, degrees verified, and an extensive candidate profile will be prepared for the committee. When a preferred candidate is identified, the candidate will participate in a final interview as well as meet with the COTN leadership team.
